Clay T on Drums

Clay Tchakalian (better known as Clay T) is a Sydney based drummer and musician. A veteran of the Australian music scene, he has played all styles of music over his 20+ year career. Currently playing and touring with Don't Change - Ultimate INXS, until recently Clay had keeping busy with Australian power metallers Night Legion, as well as planning the follow up album with US power metal outfit Blasted To Static.

When asked about his approach to drumming, Clay says:

"I've always thought it better to be a musician's musician than a drummer's drummer. You want to be the guy who other musicians want to play with. I'd much prefer to have the whole club up and dancing to my feel and groove than impressing the 2 guys up the back standing there with their arms folded!!"

Clay is currently touring Australia with the country's premier INXS tribute show Don't Change - The INXS Story. This provides an opportunity to play a style of drumming which is more groove oriented and allows Clay to further explore the implementation of electronics into his live setup. Tours are currently being locked in for 2020 across USA, UK and New Zealand. In February 2018, the band performed to more than 18,000 people and a national televised audience for the Newcastle Jets A-League team's pre-game show in their top-of-the-table clash with Sydney FC.

2019 has already seen Don't Change venture to Western Australia for the first time, selling out shows over there, as well as continuing to wow audiences in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, North Queensland and everywhere in between.

In August 2019 the band will headline the "Almost The Greatest Gig on Earth" festival featuring the best tribute bands from around the country. The band was hand picked by former Australian Idol judge Ian "Dicko" Dickson to help close out the show.

2017 saw the launch of the debut album of Clay's newest project, Night Legion. Featuring members of Australian metal royalty, Night Legion has already begun to win crowds over with their energetic and melodic brand of power metal. The debut album was released on 27 October 2017 via Massacre Records. In 2018, the band toured Australia supporting Heavy Metal Hall of Fame inductee Ross The Boss from Manowar fame. Unfortunately, due to the heavy touring schedule of Don't Change, Clay has had to step down from drumming duties in Night Legion, but continues to be an avid supporter of the band.

May 2016 saw the release of the debut Blasted To Static album which was released internationally on Metalapolis Records. This followed gigs in the US, culminating in a headline show at the iconic Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles. The band is led by Jeff Martin, lead singer of LA 80s legends Racer X. A new release is being worked on for 2018.
